D'Souza guide ADIS to title victory

Justin D''Souza played the stellar role to guide Abu Dhabi Indian School to the Abu Dhabi inter-school under 16 title.

The 14-year-old took charge of his team''s inning when they had lost two early wickets in quick succession and was last out trying to run two in the final over.

D''Souza played the anchor role, switching back and forth between the aggressor and the nudger, to score 73 to help his team to post 138 and pave the way for a 25-run win over The Cambridge High School at the Abu Dhabi Cricket Council''s Nursery Oval.

D''Souza made his way to the non-striker''s end following Nithin Samuel''s run out only to see his captain Mohammed Israfil fall two balls later when he top edged a catch that left ADIS in a bit of a spot at 10 for two in the second over.

''We were under pressure right from the beginning,'' D''Souza said. ''I knew I had to stay at the wicket as well as see the scoreboard ticking. I am glad I was able to do that for my team to get a pretty decent total at the end.''

''It was still not a total that was safe but the bowlers came in and did a good job for us.''

D''Souza had a fruitful partnership with Ayman Gundru (17), the only other batsman to get into double figures, as the pair added 47 for the sixth wicket.

Quadros was the pick of the bowling, returning with three wickets for eight runs from four overs. The lanky medium pacer took the delivered a double blow and D''Souza struck in-between to have Cambridge reeling at 12 for three.

Aashish Menon (30) and Sahal Baji (34) rebuilt the inning with a 40-run stand for the sixth wicket.

Quadros returned for his second spell to have Menon caught behind by Saud Arif and Sreeradh Radhakrishnan got one through Baji''s defence to all but end Cambridge''s hopes of a come-back.

The fourth staging of the schools tournament conducted by the Abu Dhabi Cricket Council and co-sponsored by UAE Exchange Centre was held under the auspices of the Emirates Cricket Board.
